Walt Disney releases a new trailer for the Video Game inspired animated feature Wreck-it Ralph. New trailer features more footage and some hints about the plot. Watch the trailer after the jump.

Synopsis: Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) is tired of being overshadowed by Fix-It Felix (voice of Jack McBrayer), the "good guy" star of their game who always gets to save the day.

But after decades doing the same thing and seeing all the glory go to Felix, Ralph decides he's tired of playing the role of a bad guy. He takes matters into his own massive hands and sets off on a game-hopping journey across the arcade through every generation of video games to prove he's got what it takes to be a hero.

On his quest, he meets the tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Jane Lynch) from the first-person action game Hero's Duty. But it's the feisty misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman) from the candy-coated cart racing game, Sugar Rush, whose world is threatened when Ralph accidentally unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens the entire arcade. Will Ralph realize his dream and save the day before it's too late?

Opening in local cinemas on October 31, 2012 to be distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International through Columbia Pictures.

First Official Promo Shot of Hugh Jackman in The Wolverine

Somebody in Facebook uploaded a photo/artwork of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.  I checked for confirmation online but it looks like it is yet to be discovered by the top blogs I've been following.  So I went straight to the source: Ryan Penagos, Executive Editorial Director for Marvel Digital Media Group & Marvel.com. Here is the image.

First as of now I can't really confirm if this is indeed an official or just something unofficial Ryan posted on his twitter just to build excitement. I can't read the conversation on twitter so I can't really get a lot of details. One thing is for sure that Hugh did look like this from the unofficial photos taken by most paparazzi.

UPDATE!!! Yes it is confirmed by 20th Century Fox that this is an official promotional material for The Wolverine.

As of now, I'm still having two hearts about this new Wolverine film. I'm not that excited but I admit I'm still curious to how will it work. I hope it is much better than the first. Opening in Philippine cinemas on July 25, 2013, from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

The Avengers Retrospect: Thanos Concept Art

I have yet to try Avengers Initiative as soon as it releases android version but it seems that it is making a good impression to mobile gamers from iOS.  One good perks of having this app is some exclusive content from the recent film event, The Avengers.  The latest content that you can unlock from this game could be one of the coolest for these are the official concept designs of the mid credits villain, Thanos.

I really thought they haven't got any designs yet since his only appearance is through shadows and we only got to see his head/face but production proved that they've done their homework and created this stunning renders of the purple guy.  I like how they used the classic Thanos design and incorporate it to a more modern and technological execution. Not sure if they will still use this design on the next movies but either way, I'm giving it a thumbs up.

The Hobbit Poster Presents the 13 Dwarves of Erebor

After we saw some solo photos of Gandalf (Iam McKellen) and Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman).  Maybe it is really time for the Dwarves to take center stage on the new one sheet for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.  But then again, Warner Bros. is giving you a single serving of all the Dwarves.  Quite practical actually.  13 solo posters for each Dwarves is definitely impractical.

Opening in local cinemas on December 13, 2012 distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

20th Century Fox - Dreamworks Animation Tandem Starts with the Croods

20th century Fox proudly announced that they will be exclusively distributing Dreamworks Animation projects starting 2013 until 2018. And the first movie they will be distributing next year is the animated feature The Croods.

“The Croods” is a prehistoric 3D comedy adventure from DreamWorks Animation to be distributed by 20th Century Fox that takes us back to the beginning of time. In a previously undiscovered era known as the Croodacious – we find the Crood family when Mother Nature was still experimenting and the flora and fauna we know today hasn’t evolved yet is where the story all began.

At the center of this world is the Crood family, led by Grug (voiced by Academy Award® winner Nicolas Cage), an over-protective father who, like all dads, is doing all he can to hold his family together at a time when cataclysmic changes are happening. Together with his wife (Catherine Keener), kids (Emma Stone and Clark Duke) and ornery mother-in-law (Cloris Leachman) in tow, Grug guides his family through this spectacular environment, full of amazing creatures, to find a new cave to call home. Along the way, they encounter Guy (Ryan Reynolds), an imaginative and resourceful newcomer who takes risks and wholeheartedly embraces the promise of tomorrow.

Inspired to tell a story of how a family survives during tough times, directors Kirk De Micco and Chris Sanders set the story in a prehistoric frame when they don’t have to worry about bills, but is concerned on how they would adapt to the world changing before their very eyes. “This is the world’s first family road trip,” says De Micco while Sanders shares that “Our cavemen are very gifted, they can run 40 miles an hour, can throw a rock many many miles and very physically capable, but mentally we have a lot of beginner minds.”

To be honest, I still don't see anything exciting about this animated feature.  I'll reserve my judgement until I see the trailers. Set to premiere on local theaters on March 30, 2013, from Dreamworks Animation to be distributed by 20th Century Fox through Warner Bros.

On the Scene: Jori Visits Great Toys Annapolis Branch

It is been a while since my last toy event and I'm glad I got the chance to join this recently concluded gathering of geeks and hobbyists.  2 weeks ago, together with some friends, we visited Great Toys' newest branch in Annapolis.  Greeted by the store's owner himself, Malvin Lim introduces the biggest branch/store in the metro.

Of course the highlight of the event is the toys for sale and some of us can't resist the urge to actually spend some bucks and buy some items.

Yes this is me posing with the toys. That's all I can do for now until I get a new job hahaha. Masterpiece Optimus Prime you will be the first on my target.

More toys on the shelf.  Ranging from as small as 3 inch action figures to 1/6th scale life like masterpieces.  Great Toys is well known as Distributor and reseller of such known brands such as Bandai, Mattel, Maxfactory, Hot Toys, Takara, Hasbro, name it, they have it.  This is definitely a collector's paradise.

Again, this is only what I can do.  Oh job, why are you so hard to catch.  I want to take these babies home soon.

And they have some of the best and cool staff.  And they are not stranger to the products they sell.  Don't be fooled by these girls because they are the one who can answer all your needs when you visit the branch.

Other than toys, Great Toys Annapolis is merging the store with a sister company called TopPh.  TopPh, sells all kinds of Sports equipments ranging from Balls, swords, rackets and protective body armors.  So collectors may enjoy shopping some athletic gears while shopping in Great Toys Annapolis.  It is a one stop shop for collectors and sportsmen alike.

Here are the bloggers, enjoying themselves.  yup, look at all those smiles LOL.

Posing with the Flipgeeks team.  Hopefully very soon I can be one of them... ;)

Having some naughty thoughts, hahaha.

Even Woody can't resist it.  I think I already know why he is called Woody.

Just a cute crying Doraemon figure.  Possibly just jealous with Woody.

Badass Solid Snake is Badass.

And that's a wrap.  It is a quick but fun experience.  First of all I'm glad that Great Toys finally got a bigger place to accommodate their patrons.  They do need a bigger one since their other branch are definitely small.  I believe these new branch is more than  5 times bigger.  I'm congratulating Mr. Malvin Lim for this new development which is a true proof of success.   To everyone who wants to visit Great Toys, it is just along Annapolis.  If you will be coming in Greenhills, it is quite a walk but you can actually ride the jeep.  Great Toys is located at the Intrawest Bldg. 2nd floor.  For more details you can call 705-1154 or visit the website and like the facebook fan page.

According to this photo.  The War machine doesn't only got a new paint job.  It looks like the mold is also updated.  And if you inspect it carefully, it is slicker and less bulky compared to the first model.  This is definitely War Machine Mark 2.  Scheduled for a theatrical release on May 2013, Iron Man 3 is from Marvel Studio to be distributed by Walt Disney Pictures.

Walt Disney releases First Photos and Teaser Poster for The Lone Ranger

Walt Disney just released the very first teaser poster and official photos from the upcoming feature film The Lone Ranger. See the whole set of images after the jump.

From producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, the filmmaking team behind the blockbuster “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, comes Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ “The Lone Ranger,” a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes.
Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.
“The Lone Ranger” also stars Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, Ruth Wilson and Helena Bonham Carter.
A Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films presentation, “The Lone Ranger” is directed by Gore Verbinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Gore Verbinski, with a screenplay by Ted Elliott & Terry Rossio and Eric Aronson and Justin Haythe.

Hmmm looking very good so far.  Though Armie is playing The titular role, it is still very obvious that Johnny Depp is getting a better billing.  I don't want this to be the next Green Hornet where Kato out-shines Green Hornet himself.  Furthermore, I'm actually not that excited to see this movie.  Maybe the trailer can do a little convincing for me.

Opening across the Philippines in July 2013, “The Lone Ranger” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International through Columbia Pictures.

Exclusive on Ayala Cinemas: Salmon Fishing in the Yemen

Just checked out this new upcoming film titled Salmon Fishing in the Yemen.  At first I'm not really that interested with it because it looks like some artsy film that sometimes I don't really like watching for I find them very boring.  But last night, I tried watching the trailer and instantly the film caught my attention.  Why?  Watch the trailer and find out for yourself.

In the film, a visionary sheik (Amr Waked) believes his passion for the peaceful pastime of salmon fishing can enrich the lives of his people, and he dreams of bringing the sport to the not so fish-friendly desert. Willing to spare no expense, he instructs his representative (Blunt) to turn the dream into reality, an extraordinary feat that will require the involvement of Britain's leading fisheries expert (McGregor) who happens to think the project both absurd and unachievable. That is, until the Prime Minister's overzealous press secretary (Scott Thomas) latches on to it as a 'good will' story.

Now, this unlikely team will put it all on the line and embark on an upstream journey of faith and fish to prove the impossible, possible.

Other than the main idea of introducing Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, the movie also tackles different layers of complications such as Fred's unlikely medical condition of Asperger's syndrome and his growing infatuation with Harriet who is currently heartbroken with his missing husband boyfriend. These multiple ideas making up the whole movie is enough reason for me to be interested. Though the trailer is not that eye catching, the film do have something worth checking out. I'm definitely giving it a chance.

Opening exclusively on Ayala Cinemas (Glorietta 4, Greenbelt 3 and Trinoma) starting October 10, 2012, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen is from Lionsgate UK to be distributed by Movie Punch Philippines.

Fox and Dreamworks Animation Releases First Trailer for The Croods

$

Oh that was fast. I ask for a trailer and here it is. Ladies and Gentlemen, here is the first trailer of 20th Century Fox and Dreamworks Animation's first animated offering next year, The Croods.

The Croods is a prehistoric comedy adventure that follows the world’s first family as they embark on a journey of a lifetime when the cave that has always shielded them from danger is destroyed. Traveling across a spectacular landscape, the Croods discover an incredible new world filled with fantastic creatures -- and their outlook is changed forever.

Now this movie makes me interested. Though I still can see the similarities with Ice Age franchise, the Croods of course offers a unique take of that idea by using humans as characters. Now we have to enjoy some family dynamics between ancient cavemans and their lifestyle during the early days. And to be honest I'm quite already bored watching talking animals as leads. Hope this movie delivers.

Looking forward for it when it finally opens locally on March 30, 2013 to be distributed by 20th Century Fox through Warner Bros.

The Curious Case of Bryan Mills: Taken 2 Movie Review

$

0

Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson) is back for yet another action packed movie in Taken 2 but this time instead of Kim (Maggie Grace), Bryan and his ex-wife Lenore are the one kidnapped by the Albanians seeking revenge for their families killed by the retired CIA agent. Will he escape the hands of the people who are thirsty for his blood or will he do what he is best for?

Taken 2 is probably one of the most anticipated movie of the year mainly because of the big success of the first movie.  Though he already played quite numerous amount of roles in action movies, this film established Liam Neeson's action star status by playing a retired CIA agent which is in my opinion is even better than James Bond.  How good?  Well Bryan Mills is practically not an ordinary man who has plenty of strange but amazing set of skills.  Hey he can even calculate his direction and distance just by listening to sounds.  And his fighting skills didn't even diminished since the last time.  He is still the same Bryan Mills who took down all those Albanians in the first movie and that is where all the bad things about Taken 2 starts.

When the movie starts, the film introduces these elderly Albanians burying their love ones who are the same people Bryan killed in the first movie.  Imagine how angry are they.  And I as the audience felt that.  I feel scared for Bryan.  The tension goes intense when they killed (or probably not because it is not shown) Bryan's friend in Paris.  Ok, I'm convinced they are scary and angry.  But it turns out these villains are just a bunch of stupid idiots who embarks on a mission without even planning everything.  And we know Bryan, he is a God.  He easily escaped and went back killing every single Albanians without even shedding a sweat.  In a nut shell, audience still root for the underdog.  No matter how strong your protagonist, we still want to see them fall.  Even the Avengers are almost defeated right?  The movie could be much better if the writer put somebody who can match Bryan's skills.  And these villains are definitely not them.  Believe me you won't even believe how Bryan defeated the leader of his captors.

Lastly, I'm so disappointed that Kim didn't do some butt kicking action.  Running on rooftops and throwing grenades on an empty car park is kinda meh for me.  I can practically do that... well except hopping from rooftop to rooftop.  I'm actually expecting more from her character.  Maybe Bryan should start training her, teach her all that he knows and create his own Hit-Girl who can defend herself from any threat.

Taken 2 served practically everything what the first Taken movie gave us but it comes short on serving something new and exciting.  As much as many thinks that a third installment is quite a stretch for the franchise, I would be happy to see another one... a BETTER one.  I want to know more about Bryan's past and maybe an intense finale to wrap up the series.

Still watchable, but if you really like the first, you may find Taken 2 boring and flat.  Take your chances.  Taken 2 is now showing in all cinemas from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.
