First Look: Iron Man 3 Set Photos Featuring Iron Patriot Armor?

Yup, you've read it right.  We just got some paparazzi shots from the set of Iron Man 3 featuring a new armor who is no doubt the Iron Patriot suit, unless they will give this baby a new name in the film but regardless of the name, it is still the iconic suit that launched the well received series Dark Avengers.  See the images after the jump.

But just like what most expect, it is not Norman Osborn.  Norman Osborn aka Green Goblin is a Spider-man character so technically the character belongs to Sony Pictures.  The actor seen wearing the armor on the set is James Badge Dale who is credited as Eric Savin.  If we will review who Eric Savin is in Marvel Universe, he is the super villain called Coldblood 7.  So it appears that Shane Black is doing what Iron Man 2 is being criticized to by merging 2 separate characters.

Personally, for me it is not a big deal but I understand if Iron Man fans will think otherwise.  I hope this development about the Iron Patriot suit is for the good of the film.  As an added bonus, with this design, it is possible that we are given a hint on how the Extremis armor will look like.  Looking forward to see more.  Set to be released on May 2013, Iron Man 3 is from Marvel Studio to be distributed by Walt Disney Pictures.

I know my fellow pinoys are already excited to see this trailer and finally here it is.  The first full theatrical trailer of The Bourne Legacy starring Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz.  That chase scene with jeepneys are wicked!!! Hahaha.  Watch the trailer after the jump.

I admit I'm not as much of a Bourne franchise fan but I already saw Ultimatum and it seems that this movie is actually happening at the same time.  Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. But either way this movie is looking good so far.

Opening in cinemas on August 3, 2012. The Bourne Legacy is from Universal Pictures, to be distributed by United International Pictures through Solar Entertainment.

Snow White and the Huntsman Movie Review

So people are still asking me if Snow White and the Huntsman is really good.  Unfortunately, people are still having reservations about the film mainly because of the lead Kristen Stewart.  I guess the Twilight reputation is hard to wipe out from her resume and the essence of blood still lingers to the moviegoers' taste buds.  But this misconception should stop now because this movie definitely needs your full attention.

Snow White and the Huntsman's plot tell's the classic story of our favorite fairy tale.  If you don't know Snow White then I don't know what planet are you from.  But of course the film is twisted in a way to make it more edgy and gritty.  Here lies the film's strength.  It balances classic plot with a creative twist that reinvigorates the tale we use to hear from our parents.  That is why anyone can watch it despite the so called "Lord of the Rings" treatment.  Speaking of Lord of the Rings, I guess it is unfair for both to be identified to each other.  Yes they are both somehow set on medieval ages with common elements such as knights, archers, creatures and magic but Snow White and the Huntsman never gave me the impression that I'm watching a Tolkien masterpiece for it has a unique ground that supports the whole film which is the tale of Snow White itself.

There is no question that Charlize Theron's portrayal of Queen Ravenna is the most anticipated character ever since the film is announced on public.  Her exquisite yet intense portrayal of the Evil queen is so intoxicating that it shows just how she becomes one of the most sought after actress on the industry.   But despite her role's robust nature, it didn't overpowers the other casts and actually compliments them creating a harmonious chemistry among each and everyone of them.  On a sad note, I find Chris Hemsworth's role underwhelming because it didn't offer anything new and unexpected.  All I can see is Thor. The only difference is he is now using a hatchet instead of a hammer.  The character is too flat.  It doesn't have any interesting things to offer except the fact that he is the one who [spoilers] Snow White. Good thing they didn't kill him because at least I have high hopes that if ever the sequel comes to reality, there is a possibility that his background will be explored in details.  On the other hand, I'm so surprised with the inclusion of the duke's son, (prince) William (Sam Claflin).  I really thought he is just a small role on the film.  His story is more amusing compared to the Huntsman.  I'm actually more interested to know how will his role grow from being Snow White's childhood sweetheart and as the proverbial "Prince Charming" of the fairy tale.

But the movie is useless without the heroine. Of course the film is still about the fairest of them all, Snow White played by the Twilight star, Kristen Stewart.   I for one don't like Kristen.  I remember when the movie is first announced, I'm one of those who frowned about the casting.  Thank God I gave the movie a chance and saw Stewart's great potential.  Her boyish persona blends well with her beauty and her ability to perform rough and intense scenes at the same time she has this ability to show that she is still vulnerable and all woman.  This makes her an absolute perfect choice for the role of a beautiful warrior princess.  This is definitely her shining glory.   Stripped from the character most moviegoers hate.  So for now, forget Bella and her obsession on sparkling blood suckers.  Set aside your biases because you are missing a film that truly defines her capabilities as an actress and a rising action hero.

Overall, I absolutely enjoyed Snow White and the Huntsman.  It is one of the most exciting interpretation of the Snow White Legend I ever saw.  Though there is still no definite announcement about a sequel, I'm really looking forward to see how far this legend can go.  The film is now showing on all cinemas nationwide from Universal Pictures distributed by United International Pictures through Solar Entertainment Corp.

Iron Man 3 News: First Official Behind the Scene Photo Released

Marvel Studios releases very first official behind the scene photo from the set of Iron Man 3.  The photo features Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark in front of his newly expanded armory with his 7 armors.  See the photo after the jump.

It is nice to see all of Tony Stark's armors lined up on his armory.  You can really see the progress of his work. With just 3 movies, Tony already created 7 armors and when this movie comes out, new armors will be added again.  We are not really sure though how many more will be added to this collection but either way I'm still excited.  It is also nice to note that Iron Man 2's very first promotional photo is also the armory, looks like the marketing team really thinks that the armors are the biggest selling point of the franchise.

Meanwhile another paparazzi photo surfaced again from Iron Man 3 set that reveals another interesting detail for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  See the photo below.

source: comicbookmovie.com
Yes, that vehicle has the logo of Advance Idea Mechanics aka A.I.M. who has a big connection with Hydra in WWII.  Not really sure how will this play in Iron Man 3 but I'm guessing that this is included on a post credit scene for a later sequel or other MCU title.

Coming in cinemas on May 2013, Iron Man 3 is from Marvel Studio to be distributed by Walt Disney Pictures.

Prometheus Feature: Spotlight on Aesthetically Working Helmets

In returning to the genre he helped define, Ridley Scott continues to push the boundaries of storytelling, both visually and thematically. As he notes, he’s all about the “everything” – from story structure to casting, from sets and costumes to new ways of telling a story. And while the renowned filmmaker is scaring the hell out of you, he never loses sight of the big picture. “After you’ve seen Prometheus,” Scott concludes, “you will have experienced something completely unexpected.”

In parallel to the film’s post-viewing experience, the actors likewise have undergone a gratifying filming experience with the helmets developed for the film.

Scott mandated a globe-shaped helmet with no blind spots. Each helmet had nine working video screens, lighting, an oxygen supply run on two fans with battery packs within the backpack. The exterior of the helmet features a fully functioning torch and HD cameras with a transmitter and recorder.

The helmet has 9 working LED screens, all with specially designed graphics, five of them in the globe, and the others in the glass. The graphics have all been designed by the art department to look like official tech. It's the seismic activity of the land.

Then there's LED lighting everywhere. There’s a light in the top. There’s a skull cap, which is wired for sound so they can not only speak, they can hear direction. And most importantly, it’s completely wired up for air because Ridley said that on ALIEN, the panic that would set in after their actors had been in the helmets for more than 30 seconds was immense. Plus there’s all that condensation you get on the globe.

The backpack really functions as a huge battery loader for all the electronics. The editor, Pietro Scalia, decided he wanted to be able to see through the mounted cameras, so they're real HD cameras, which come with big recorders and great big transmitters. But apparently the footage has been great – you can intercut, so that right in the middle of a scene you get little gems: little bits and bobs that a wide camera can't.

Prometheus costume designer Janty Yates shares, “We'll make about 60 of these helmets. We've got so many stunts. It's a constant process of making and mending them. There are so many things that can and do go wrong with the electronics, but even with all the maintenance you have to do I think we must have saved them a fortune, because if it weren't built into the suit they'd have had to create it in post and that would have been so much more difficult.

Even a little knock to the helmet could knock out the whole sequence. They're so fragile, but they're just beautiful things. The result of having all these lights in the suit itself is that you end up with the actors bathed in this exquisite lighting. My guys have to get together with Dariusz Wolski, the cinematographer, and figure out what was going to work and where. They strips of light look like inverted halos and they light the faces really exquisitely,” recalls Yates.

Through their official website, NECA announces the upcoming release of movie tie in action figures for Ridley Scott's latest masterpiece, Prometheus.  And the toys that will be released first as series 1 are none other than the "space jockeys" themselves.

SPOILER WARNING!!!  The images and video posted below are definitely big spoilers for the movie so it is highly advisable to hit back now to avoid it.  But if you really don't mind being spoiled then you are free to proceed.  Watch the video brief about the action figure below.

For those who already saw the film, we already know the biggest twist of the Space Jockeys and this action figures are probably the best depiction of the real identities of the creature baptized as Engineers by Dr. Shaw (Rapace).  These creatures are suppose to be the real creators of man.  Imagine how crazy is that.  Before, we always joke about man evolving from extraterrestrials.  Now Ridley finally dropped the bomb.

The Engineers: Chair Suit (Left) and the Pressure Suit (Right)

Photos above are the first clear images of the Engineers released on the net. I guess I'm too busy thinking while the movie is giving me blow by blow revelations that I don't really got the chance to marvel these awesome designs. The figures definitely look excellent and highly detailed.  I'm very sure that Alien aficionados will definitely get both of these gorgeous beauties when it is finally out in the public.  The collectibles are set to be released on September 2012, after next month's big announcement at the San Diego Comic Con 2012 (SDCC)Prometheus is still showing on cinemas nationwide, distributed by 20th Century Fox.

20th Century Fox unveils teaser banner for the upcoming sequel Taken 2 starring Liam Neeson.  See the poster after the jump.

Neeson reprises the role of Bryan Mills, a father and an estranged husband who would do anything for his family in the movie. Mills’ daughter having been kidnapped the first time. But he faces a different kind of conflict in “Taken 2.” Liam Neeson returns as Bryan Mills, the retired CIA agent with a particular set of skills who stopped at nothing to save his daughter Kim from Albanian kidnappers. When the father of one of the kidnappers swears revenge, and takes Bryan and his wife hostage during their family vacation in Istanbul, Bryan enlists Kim to help them escape, and uses the same advanced level of special forces tactics to get his family to safety and then systematically take out the kidnappers one by one.

Nothing really special with this poster but admit it, Liam Neeson still looks bad ass on this one.  Opening on October 5 in theaters from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

First Look: Angelina Jolie as Maleficent

Walt Disney Pictures finally revealed the very first production photo from the Sleeping Beauty spin-off Maleficent featuring Angelina Jolie herself as the ruthless mistress of evil.  See the photo after the jump.

Directed by two-time Oscar®-winning production designer Robert Stromberg (“Avatar,” “Alice in Wonderland”), in his directorial debut, and produced by Joe Roth, “Maleficent” is written by Linda Woolverton (“The Lion King,” “Beauty and the Beast”) and executive produced by Angelina Jolie, Don Hahn, Matt Smith and Palak Patel.

Co-starring in the film are Sharlto Copley (“District 9”), Elle Fanning (“Super 8”), Sam Riley (“On the Road”), Imelda Staunton (“Vera Drake”), Miranda Richardson (“The Hours”), Juno Temple (“Atonement”) and Lesley Manville (“Secrets and Lies”).

“Maleficent” is the untold story of Disney’s most beloved villain, Maleficent, from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” The film reveals the events that hardened her heart and drove her to curse the baby, Aurora.
This is suppose to be a raw photo so I'm expecting for more post production effects in the future.  But so far, Angelina already captured the essence of Maleficent and it is looking good.  Too bad the shoot just started and we need to wait a little longer for the film premiere.  Set for a March 14, 2014 release, Maleficent is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International through Columbia Pictures.

New set of posters for Dreamworks Animation's Rise of the Guardians features lead characters from the film.  See the stunning posters after the jump.

Jck Frost (Chris Pine) and the Tooth Fairy (Isla Fisher Cohen)

Easter Bunny (Hugh Jackman) and the Sandman
More than a collection of the well-known childhood legends, Rise of the Guardians tells the story of a group of heroes — each with extraordinary abilities. When an evil spirit known as Pitch lays down the gauntlet to take over the world, the immortal Guardians must join forces for the first time to protect the hopes, beliefs and imagination of children all over the world. This epic 3D adventure stars Chris Pine as Jack Frost, Alec Baldwin as North (Santa Claus), Hugh Jackman as Bunnymund (Easter Bunny), Isla Fisher as Tooth (Tooth Fairy) and Jude Law as Pitch (The Boogeyman).

Personally I already lost interest on any marketing material that will come.  I just want to see the actual movie because everything that I saw on trailers and posters are enough for me to convince myself that this movie is worth watching.  I'm just worried that they will go too far on the marketing that they show more spoilers.

Disney's Wreck-it Ralph Opens October 2012 in PH

Currently watching Disney's Tangled on cable TV suddenly reminded me of their upcoming new offering that I saw weeks ago.  You may have already saw this but just in case their are some who haven't, here is it.  Watch the very first trailer for Disney's Wreck-it Ralph.

Walt Disney Animation Studios and Emmy®-winning director Rich Moore (TV’s “The Simpsons,” “Futurama”) take moviegoers on a hilarious, arcade-game-hopping journey in “Wreck-It Ralph.” Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly, “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby,” “Step Brothers”) is tired of being overshadowed by Fix-It Felix (voice of Jack McBrayer, “30 Rock”), the “good guy” star of their game who always gets to save the day. Butafter decades doing the same thing and seeing all the glory go to Felix, Ralph decides he’s tired of playing the role of a bad guy. He takes matters into his own massive hands and sets off on a game-hopping journey across the arcade through every generation of video games to prove he’s got what it takes to be a hero.

On his quest, he meets the tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Jane Lynch, TV’s “Glee”) from the first-person action game Hero’s Duty. But it’s the feisty misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman, “The Sarah Silverman Program”) from the candy-coated cart racing game, Sugar Rush, whose world is threatened when Ralph accidentally unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens the entire arcade. Will Ralph realize his dream and save the day before it’s too late? “Wreck-It Ralph” crashes onto the big screen on November 2, 2012, in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theaters.
can you name them all ;)
Looks promising right?  Not only that this movie is greatly based on video games but it also features cameos from mainstream video game titles from several gaming companies such as Capcom, Nintendo, Sega, Namco and whole lot more.  Can you name those characters?

Though the biggest marketing strength of this film is the cameos, I really hope that there is more out of its plot than just your average animation based on a video game world.  We've already got that a lot of times and I'm looking forward to see something new.  Disney don't disappoint us.

Set to premiere on Philippine cinemas on October 2012, Wreck-it Ralph is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International through Columbia Pictures.

After seeing an official photo of Angeline Jolie in Disney's upcoming fantasy flick Maleficent, here are some paparazzi shots from the first day of shoot straight from the set in Buckinghamshire.  Here are the photos courtesy by Dailymail.

To be honest, I'm not sure if the costume looks good and the horns actually looks too literal.  I really taught that the horn is Maleficent's hair arranged on a very stylish way but on this photo, it appears that she is having a real pair on her head.  I'm also not sure how much cgi will be applied in post production so probably this is not the final look (I wish).

Maleficent is set to premiere on 2014, to be distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International through Columbia Pictures.

Taken 2 First Trailer Released

After the release of poster, 20th Century FOX now releases the very first trailer for the most anticipated sequel Taken 2 starring Liam Neeson as retired CIA operative Bryan Mills.  Watch the intense and action packed trailer after the jump.

Liam Neeson returns as Bryan Mills, a retired CIA operative who decimated an Albanian slave-trading ring to rescue his kidnapped daughter. A year later, on a trip to Istanbul, Mills gets a surprise visit from his daughter, Kim, and his wife, Lenore. The happy reunion turns sour when Lenore is taken by gangsters serving Murad, father of one of the fallen Albanian criminals. With his wife held hostage and Kim on the run, Mills must once again use his lethal skills to track down his wife and eliminate all who stand in his way.

So far the trailer just confirm most of the early details about the plot.  The scenes are intense but people may agree with me that it still lacks new elements that may put it on another level as compared to the first film. But the scenes with Bryan's daughter, Kim (Maggie Grace) is not bad at all.  Though they really never revealed any fight scenes for her, the stunts is already enough proof that it is possible that she may be kicking some ass some where in the movie.  Looking forward to see those footage.  Opening in theaters on October 4, 2012 from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

"Here Comes the Boom" Trailer Premieres featuring Charice

Sony Pictures released the very first trailer for the upcoming comedy "Here comes the Boom". This is the movie Charice Pempengco mentioned last year that she shoot and officially her second film after Alvin and the Chipmunks 2. Watch the trailer after the jump.

Former collegiate wrester Scott Voss (James) is a 42-year-old apathetic biology teacher in a failing high school. When cutbacks threaten to cancel the music program and lay off its teacher (Henry Winkler,) Scott begins to raise money by moonlighting as a mixed martial arts fighter. Everyone thinks Scott is crazy – most of all the school nurse, Bella (Hayek) and – but in his quest, Scott gains something he never expected as he becomes a sensation that rallies the entire school.

It seems that Charice will be playing a bigger role this time and she will be joined by another pinoy Reggie Lee (Grimm) as her dad. The plot sounds like a little mix of Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 and Nacho Libre (MMA style). I don't really set high standards for comedy but as long as it is hilarious and entertaining, I'm up for it.

Opening in October 2012 on cinemas to be distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

The Amazing Spider-man Movie Review

$
0
0

Just saw Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-man last night and it is indeed amazing to say the least. Though to be honest, it is not the same feeling when I first saw The Avengers. It doesn't have the same wow factor but it is still a good movie to experience.

First of all I want to give rest to the question most people are keep on asking: Which is much better, Raimi's version or Webb's version?  I believe as a whole, both film franchise stands out on their own. Raimi's version is campy while Webb is more darker and dramatic.  I can't really compare the two for they just gave the mythos two distinct servings. We can't even argue about how one of the movie is more faithful to the original material because trust me, even this new film has a lot of inconsistency to the comic. In the end one thing is for sure, I'm happy with this rebooted film but I will still watch the old franchise without diminished respect (except Spider-man 3 of course).

Now the actors are completely different story. This is where The Amazing Spider-man excelled. The film assembled a fantastic cast who is absolutely much better than the previous one. Of course the one who stands out the most is Andrew Garfield who exhibits a much better execution of the character (Peter Parker/Spidey) than Tobey Maguire. Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker is more organic and not just a character who pops out of a comic book page like how he is portrayed in the previous incarnation. Garfield's Peter is an absolute manifestation of innocence and mischief, an embodiment of contemporary youth of this generation.

The new Spider-man costume looks a lot better now that we finally saw it in the film. Spidey now looks more like a creature than a heroic masked vigilante. This costume design combined with Andrew Garfield's skinny built created a somehow very organic image of Spider-man as if his costume is his actual skin.  I also appreciate how the production lessen the usage of CGI on Spidey. This is what I really hate about the first trilogy where most of the Spidey shots looks so fake and the routines are too synthetic. In TASM, actual people are doing the stunts resulting to a more realistic acrobatic sequences that you will definitely enjoy.

I would really be happy to discuss more about this movie but I believe that is already not necessary.  I think I know that even before you read this you are already planning to see it.  And even if I ask you to forget the previous Spider-man movie, I know you can't.  But there are things in the past we really need to let go.  For now, forget the previous Spider-man movies.  Watch Marc Webb's rendition of Spider-man and enjoy it to the fullest.

Now showing on all cinemas both on 3D and regular format, to be distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

Rewritng History: Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter

$

Based on the bestselling vein-thumping mashup novel by Seth Grahame-Smith, Timur Bekmambetov directs while Tim Burton and Jim Lemley produce “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.”
Dubbed as a revisionist tale of the 16th US President’s life as a politician by day and a vampire hunter by night, it stars Benjamin Walker as the iconic commander-in-chief and Dominic Cooper as his mentor. The film also stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Mary Todd Lincoln, Jimmi Simpson as Josh Speed and Anthony Mackie as Will. Alan Tudyk takes on the role of Stephen A. Douglas, while Rufus Sewell is the film’s chief antagonist vampire Adam.

“It was an adventure, like I'm entering a new world I had never been before and I wanted to explore it,” Bekmambetov says of his attraction to the project. “I wanted to meet these unbelievable characters, Abraham Lincoln, his friend, Will, his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln, his enemies and his friends. And I wanted to go with him through his journey.”

And what a journey it is, as we follow the young Abraham Lincoln from his childhood right on through to some of the most important speeches of his Presidential career. But as much as we might know the central character from history lessons and his portrait on the $5 bill, here his journey has been reimagined and heightened for a modern audience. Was there more to his lifelong struggles?

It’s safe to say that ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER is no ordinary period piece. Anthony Mackie, who plays Lincoln’s trusted confidant William H. Johnson, reveals that it’s more than just the truth which is being bent for our entertainment. “I think there are many different aspects of Timur’s ability in this film,” he enthuses. “I think if you just look at how far he’s bending the truth you know you’re also going to see that in the camera work and the acting.”

For the actor though, the film’s story is an accessible introduction to a chapter of world history that shouldn’t be forgotten. “The story of Abraham Lincoln and everything that was happening in the mid-1800s in America is so popular that we know the turn of events,” he says. “We know the dates, we know what happened. Timur has given us a different way to look at it and he’s putting people in the position to go back and refresh themselves about what happened. You get a cool story in a new and funky way.”

For the actor tasked with bringing Abraham Lincoln to life, Ben Walker, the President is such a complex character that little embellishment is needed to find an accurate portrayal. “When you really look at Abraham Lincoln and his legacy and his life, you realize how truly complex and complicated he was as a man,” Walker says. “You recognize how complicated were the issues that he lived for and that lends itself to playing him. It gives you some wiggle room too when you get to the point where you’re reinventing American history.”
